DV9052 - From the Closet to the Clinic: Advanced Sexual Orientation and Gender Minority Cases
Tuesday, May 21, 2019
01:00 PM - 02:00 PM
$0     CME
Location: 205
Sexual orientation and gender identity minorities (SGM) have unique health concerns which can often be complicated by a variety of psychosocial issues. Medical research has increasingly recognized the need for more formal and advanced education on the distinct needs for SGM patients. SGM patients suffer from discrimination, societal stigma, and high rates of substance abuse and mental health issues. The expert panel will take the conversation beyond just the basic medical needs of these populations to discuss complicated cases and dive into ethical and psychosocial concerns of SGM. The lecture is intended for PAs who are seeking a more in-depth understanding of the complexities of SGM healthcare.

At the end of this session, participants should be able to:
• Define medical terminology necessary to support a culturally competent patient history
• Apply current medical knowledge to the care of sexual and gender minority (SGM) patients across the lifespan
• Describe treatment goals for the medical care of SGM patients across the lifespan
